The league director starts off each league night with a listing of signed up players in order of rating. He will put the top five players in the top group, the next five are put in the second group, and so on down the list. If the number of players is not divisible by five then the number of players in some groups would be adjusted. The league director may adjust the number of players per group as he or she sees fit.
Players play all other members in their group. The goal is to win the group, and to improve one‚??s league rating. All games will be played according to USATT rules. The game format will be best of five to 11.
When a player joins the league they will start with their USATT rating, other club rating, or the league director will estimate a rating for the player. An estimated rating may be adjusted later as more information is available.
League ratings will change in the same way that USATT ratings change, using the same rating chart. Ratings will be calculated at the end of the night when results are inputted into the computer system.
You can read all about the USATT rating system at the USATT website but here is the most relevant part:
Points are gained and lost according to the rating difference between the players. A higher rated player that beats a lower rated one (i.e. an ‚??expected result‚??) gains fewer points than if the opposite were true (i.e. an ‚??upset result‚??). And the closer the rating spread between the players, the fewer points that are gained and lost. For example, a player with a rating of 1200 that beats a player with a rating of 1180 gains 8 points. However, if the same 1200 rated player beats a player rated 1300, then he will gain 20 points. Notice that the points that one player gains are points that the other player loses. In our example above, the 1180 rated player loses 8 points and the 1300 rated player loses 20 points.
There is no extra cost to play the league. If you are a member or you have a day pass you can play the league.
